Pitch Anything by Oren Klaff is a masterpiece.
I’ve read this book three times in the past two weeks and already used the techniques to devastating effect in a pitch.
It’s taken me a couple of weeks, to put my head around why this book (and why it’s not for everyone) is so good.
It’s the not for everyone bit I’m really struggling with.
It SHOULD be for everyone, but I worry people will read Oren’s capital raising background (An area I’m intimately familiar with) and anecdotes and think – this is not for me.
Oren has put in the most plain english way I’ve seen – a bunch of very technical concepts (A greatest hits of NLP, Psychology and good old laws of the high school jungle) and made them easy, forehead slapping concepts to implement.
What’s exciting to me is – EVERYTHING IS A PITCH.
EVERYTHING
Think outside the box a little, your doctor pitches you a diagnosis, you pitch your point of view in a blog post. Everything is a pitch, I even have to “Pitch” my kids to eat their broccoli (I need work on that one!)
To practice the next level of Market Leadership, you need to have a point of view worth discussing to the top 20 influencers in your market. That right there kiddo, is a pitch.
You need to stand out.
And that ladies and gentleman – is the BFP1
Most people are terrified of standing out, our DNA fights against standing out (That’s what got you eaten Terra Nova Dinosaur’ style ).
Yet, Stand Out You Must.

There’s a process for Pitching!! (and as someone who’s watched and performed at least a few hundred of them I can tell you there is – sadly pre-oren, until now I had no freaking clue!)

PPS – WARNING, if you’re not a person who can take a concept from one market and apply it to your’s – there is a danger you might be underwhelmed – that would be tragic and sad.
