So the very funny (and even more importantly, Founding Shareholder in 30DC Inc !) Lance Carr has called for a moratorium on me using the phrase “Game Changer”
“Game Changer” has had a bit of bad press recently because everything launched these days get’s branded “Game Changer” and it rarely is.
I must admit – I’d felt a bit defensive when Lance said this because I believe I use the phrase only when something is indeed a “Game Changer”
Let’s face it, I have so little to offer this world… the market for Laser Tag Champions in the early nineties is severely limited.
My eldest daughter Hannah, just had her first school swimming carnival and she won every race bringing home four first place ribbons.
So between Hannah and my entire school athletics careers we have between us…well… four first place ribbons.
Like I said, very little to contribute.
There is one tiny area, where I have some level of – dare I say it – expertise.
I have this knack of figuring out what technology is going to make a significant impact and hence worthy of us >marketers attention and the stuff thats …well not…
So I figure Ok Mr Smarty @dvdrepairtips I’m going to google my name yet again today – only this time , I’m going to add “Game Changer”…
Let’s see what the all knowing google thinks of my game changing record….
GAME CHANGER 1
The first article appearing is my most read article of all time – and still brings in a couple of hundred readers a day to the blog.
The Facebook Bombshell discussed the marketing implications of the new Facebook Like system – I called the like button a game changer. Score 1 for me – Facebook Marketing will be one of two crucial markets for us that didn’t exist three years ago!!! The like system was a game changer and if your doing Facebook PPC — you know I’m right.
GAME CHANGER 2
iPad – 12 hours in Fastest selling consumer electronics device EVER – outpacing the DVD.
Tablets have gone from nowhere to THE THING in EIGHT MONTHS and if that didn’t seal the deal.
Just this week….
Oprah declares the iPad her favourite thing EVER!
Game Over Man…Game Over.
Apple will sell approximately a bajillion of these at Christmas and that’s before people have even figured out why “Airplay” will make them even more ridiculously useful.
That’s 2 for 2
GAME CHANGER 3
Facetime on iPhone 4 is a game changer – I still believe this is the case – but I reckon it will take December 25 2010 to seal the deal. I’ve been using Facetime with the girls while I’ve been traveling and it’s so much better than skype.
Why….
Simple, With Skype you both have to be online at the same time for it to work – With Facetime – I RING like a phone – massive difference. For the adoption of the technology with Joe and Jane Smith – geeks get tech and skype, Joe and Jane, they know how to make a call.
This is why Facetime will win. Imagine when they add Airplay functionality….
But in the interest of fairness lets call this one undecided.
Next…
GAME CHANGER 4
The Canon 5D mkII – the camera that bought pro level cinematography to the man on the street – easy win for the “Game Changer” category
Lots of Duplicates then…
GAME CHANGER 5
Lesley Rhodes talk at this years Challenge Conference – I suppose this one is in the juries out box – but I’m happy to stand by this one too. Mechanical Turk/ outsourcing and the like are going to make an impact next year.
GAME CHANGER 6
The Immediate Edge as game changer is next on Google and I certainly stand by that – how many techniques are now common usage were first taught in the Immediate Edge. So I’ll stand by this as well.
Next – The magnificent screen software Screenflow -If you don’t think this was game changing then you’ve never done a screencast – to this day it does things which should not be possible. Before it came along, everyone in the IM game was using camtasia. Now everyone uses Screenflow.
12 pages into Google I haven’t found a single occasion where I’ve used the term and it hasn’t (or won’t) turn out…
BUT
I have been wrong….
Can you remember it?
Be Nice and then I’ll try to defend myself… :–)
